Accessibility Statement
The Commune of Schengen is committed to making its website schengen.lu accessible in accordance with the Law of 28 May 2019 on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies.
This accessibility statement applies to the website: www.schengen.lu
Compliance Status
Based on the simplified accessibility audit carried out on 17 November 2025, the website schengen.lu is partially compliant with the Luxembourgish accessibility framework RAWeb v1, due to the non‑compliances listed below.
The audit assigns an overall good level for the tested criteria.
Non-accessible content
The audit identifies several categories of non-compliance:
Images
- Some decorative images have an alt attribute instead of being correctly marked as decorative.
This may disturb screen reader users. - Some linked images do not have a clear label or do not indicate the link destination.
Frames (iframes)
- Some <iframe> elements do not have a meaningful title attribute.
This prevents screen readers from understanding their content.
Colours & Contrast
- Certain information is conveyed by colour alone, notably the indication of the active page in the menu.
Data tables
- Tables are not correctly structured: missing <th> tags, missing scope or headers attributes, which prevents assistive technologies from interpreting them.
Links
- Several image-links lack understandable labels.
- Some link texts are redundant or not relevant.
Scripts and interactive elements
Some interactive components are not keyboard-accessible, particularly:
- the mobile menu,
- the burger menu (does not react to ESC),
- the cookie box (does not react to ESC).
These components do not follow WAI‑ARIA patterns.
Language
- Some passages in other languages are not marked with the appropriate lang attribute.
Focus visibility
- For many elements, keyboard focus is not visible, making navigation difficult for keyboard-only users.
Example: the accessibility plugin.
Additional content (hover / focus)
- Some submenus are only visible on hover and cannot be reached via keyboard navigation.
Forms
- No textual explanation is provided for required fields.
Using a symbol alone (e.g. *) is insufficient.
Navigation and shortcuts
- Missing skip links (bypass blocks).
- Inconsistent tab order in some cases.
ARIA landmarks (structural regions)
- Essential landmarks are missing (role=banner, navigation, main, search, contentinfo).
This prevents blind users from navigating quickly.
PDF documents
The simplified audit does not directly cover PDFs, but an additional internal assessment indicates that some downloadable documents may not be compliant (missing structure, missing tags, undefined language).
They will be progressively brought into compliance or replaced with alternative web pages.
